Here's one of my personal favourite projects. I like to call this the 'Perfection in Imperfections'. For this project, the design brief seemed simple enough... to renovate the place to make it look old. The charm of the original state of the old buildings in Tiong Baruh, was a starting reference for this project. Having established the theme for the home with my client, I went with the raw, natural feel and look of cement screed, much like the old homes from the kampong days. The rawness and imperfections in tones of cement screed is what brought the charm back into this home. With this natural look, I decided to make use of raw hollow blocks, to built up certain new dividing walls, and to leave the raw blocks, unplastered, unpainted, to expose the imperfections of the blocks, that blends with the rawness of the floor screed. The result of fusing such imperfections actually creates the warmth and cosiness for this home.
Incidently, the CRACK on the wall that you can see was deliberate.
